THE GREAT BARN DEVON

THE GREAT BARN DEVON WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY

AMY + PHIL

Gorgeous, relaxed with such a welcoming vibe, this was the story for Amy & Phil who were married at the stunning Great Barn in Dveon last year. Two genuinely lovely, lovely people to spend a day with, they made me feel so welcome and right at home capturing their day and watching it unfold.

Awesome Suppliers

Brides Dress Name/Designer: Monsoon (High street girl at heart)

Bridesmaid Dress Details: ASOS for the girls - Tom wore his own suit, with a colour coordinated tie.

Groom Suit Details: Hugo Boss

Food
The venue sorted the wedding breakfast - it was Dartmoor Kitchen who were brilliant and the platters for lunch went down really well. Evening catering we had George from Polly Nostimos food truck based in Exeter ( https://www.facebook.com/PollyNostimos/ ) serving Greek Souvlaki from his converted Citroen truck. Roll Me Up ice cream (https://www.rollmeup.co.uk/) also served in the evening (also went down a treat), they stood in last minute when the original ice cream caterers cancelled 2 days before.

Drink
We bought all the daytime drink from supermarkets in the weeks leading up to the wedding (some had to be replaced as it was too tempting having it in the house!) We opted for beers and ciders alongside standard fizz and table wine to cater for all guests (and Phil made some lovely menus for beers for the tables) Phil's Dad, Andy also provided homegrown and brewed cider for the welcome drinks and in kegs for the evening guests.

Flowers details:
DIY flowers purchased from Peamore the day before - all hands on deck on the Friday to make all the table and room decorations, along with bouquets for myself and the three bridesmaids. Buttonholes were made to coordinate and kept in the fridges with our weekends worth of food overnight.

Stationery Details
Phil made this himself - as a graphic designer he really felt the pressure. He made all the save the dates, invites, table menus, seating plans card drop off boxes, signs for the cameras for the guests, guest books - the lot!

Celebrant Details
I can't remember the woman's name (which is terrible), but I met her moments before the wedding, and was not in any frame of mind.

Tell us what made your day unique
The friends, the family, the food, the music. We did so much of it ourselves which I feel reflected our personalities and relationship. Even down to playlists (we did all the music so it took some time), we personalised every part of the day.

How did you choose your suppliers?
The guys at the venue were amazing for helping everything to run smoothly - such an incredible place and the people just made it. They sorted the food, which we had not a bad word to say about and had so many comments about during the day and afterwards.

What was the vibe of your day?
Relaxed and boozy!

Do you have a favourite moment of your day?
Being able to chat to Phil after the ceremony - he's ever the traditionalist and so we didn't see each other the evening before or in the morning and the nerves were crazy! Once the ceremony was finished and we were idly chatting (with fizz of course), I felt like the day could begin.
Also - the moment the sun came out at around 10am, after the bleakest week leading up to the wedding (who knew June could feel like November) and torrential rain all morning, was a high point.

Do you have any advice for people planning their wedding?
Relax, it'll work and whatever happens it'll be fun! I stressed way too much leading up to the day and once it was over I wished I'd enjoyed that bit more!

Anything else major that you just have to tell us? An epic DIY project? A particular supplier who stole the show? How you found your dress?*
George at Polly Nostimos was just brilliant - he was so chatty and lovely and the van looked so good in the courtyard. I feel like he sort of doubled up as entertainment. Andy's cider was a winner too - he told me it was around 8% proof, though I'm not so sure after seeing some of the guests later on in the evening!

How epic was your photographer? ;-)
The best! We were recommended by another photographer who was fully booked and we are so glad that was the case. So good that my brother has booked for his wedding after loving the photos.
